McCain sent Contras money from his own pocket

Many of the "contras" or members of right wing guerrilla groups fighting the Sandinista government in the 1980s were drug smugglers and terrorists. High government officials of the Reagan and Bush, Sr. administrations knew very well about the drug running.'

Contras Ask U.S. Citizens For Help
BYLINE: By RICHARD COLE, Associated Press Writer

Contra leaders have postponed peace talks with the leftist Nicaraguan goverment and are asking Americans to donate money to help fund their civil war because Congress rejected military aid.

"We are now faced with the challenge of conserving the integrity and morale of our forces," Azucena Ferrey, a director of the Nicaraguan Resistance, said Monday. "In order to surmount this challenge, we need your financial support and appeal to the generosity which has always characterized the American people.

Contributions already have been received from presidential candidate Sen. Bob Dole, R-Kan., and from Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz. Dole gave $500 and McCain $400."

Yes, and a vote for Barack Obama is a vote for an end of US aid to Colombia and a stronger re-organized FARC and Colombia can go back to where it was before Uribe took over from Pastrana.

It is what it is.

Most of us here are are gringos that come here to get away from the political bullshit that we are being bombarded with from day to day.. And it looks like we will have Obama whether we like it or not.. due to the media shoving him down our throats, and ACORN`s rampant voter fraud.

corporalgator says on Oct 11, 2008, 07:14:

So, the last two elections were almost certainly won due to voter fraud. In fact, in August 2007, the Supreme Court implied that when they ruled that attorney generals illegally threatened vote swapping web-sites in the 2000 election and that it was a fundamental right of voters to be able to speak with other voters to trade their votes when no money was passed. But, when Obama wins, and he will by a shocking margin, people will claim fraud.

Nevermind that he has registered more voters than anyone in history. Nevermind that he has raised more money than anyone in history mostly through small donations. Nevermind that his volunteer army Getting The Vote Out is the largest in history. Nevermind that in some states that McCain took for granted because Republicans always win them like Virginia, Missouri, and Indiana, Obama has 20 times more offices and thousands more volunteers. Yep, it will be all about fraud when he wins.

And the country is already socialist, or at least pretty communist where the system leads to a corrupt bloated government that only cares for the rich and powerful.

Uribe met with Palin a few weeks ago at the UN.

Like Bush or not, the fact is that Uribe's war on terror, with US military aid, has made Colombia a safer place. Too bad that groups like Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International cannot acknowledge this for what it is.

You people living in Colombia in this forum you tell me if things are safer now than when Pastrana was there?

Obama is a threat to Colombia's security because we don't know who he is ???????????????????????????????????????? I know who McCain is.

Obama is a good speaker like Reagan. He makes you feel good but the devil could be in the details. Obama has run around with oddball individuals including a 60's terrorist.

I hope a majority of Americans can shake off the image and hype of Obama and make the safe choice of McCain! McCain is better for Colombia!

And given the current environment, unfortunately, Colombia may be forgotten in Washington regardless of who is in office.

Pappassito--You could not be more wrong! You are putting out bad intel! Bill Clinton and the Democrats support for Plan Colombia;

Published: May 24, 2007

BOGOTA, Colombia: Colombia will honor former U.S. President Bill Clinton for his efforts to reverse the country's image for violence and drugs at a gala event next month in New York City.

The June 8 event may become a political lightning rod for Democrats who are increasingly scrutinizing the human rights record of Washington's closest ally in Latin America.

That's because President Alvaro Uribe is expected to hand Clinton the "Colombia is Passion" award "for believing in our country and encouraging others to do the same," according to the event's organizer in Bogota.

In 1999 President Pastrana visited the U.S. to garner support for his proposal. ********In July 2000, U.S. President Bill Clinton signed into law a $1.3 billion aid package as the U.S. contribution to the plan *******

we need to think a whole lot less about what free trade means for colombia and what does it REALLY mean for us. just review the outcome of the mexican free trade agreement.

it's not FREE TRADE, until it's FREE TRADE... across the board. if you're tired of the bull shit and rip off of taking your property to colombia....i am, i've moved my personal belongings back and forth three times. and it's like being raped each time.

we're these commercial movements, that would be one thing....however, it's just our home and personal possessions and to get laid every time is bull shit. they literally make ther rules up as they go along. now colombians can bring there stuff here, already, no pain, very few problems and none if any taxes. one of our shipments costs us 35,000.00 before all was said and done.

SOOOOOO friends, before you sit here and say it's a democrat or a republican issue, note, NOT. it's a colombian hard ass issue that demand to milk the cow until it's fuckin dead. screw them, on this issue. either make it an open free trade border, or suck rocks. they continue to attempt to circumvent our borders by the illicit import of their drugs...and this reaches to the highest levels of govt. but if you, an american or a european, want to bring your furnishings, your car, your tools, etc. SPREAD YOUR LEGS.

so instead of saying someone is standing in the way...who ever that is, GOOD. no trade agreement until and unless IT'S IN OUR FAVOR.

You think that Colombia's success against the FARC is solely dependent on Plan Colombia and US aid (by the way, US aid to Colombia's military predates Plan Colombia by many years. And again, Plan Colombia was championed by Clinton [a democrat] and Pastrana. Most liberals are for sending aid to Colombia, the simply want to broaden its scope). In addition, Obama has said that he will support trade with Colombia if the country demonstrates that it is committed to righting the wrongs of the past in terms of protecting labor leaders, for example. Colombia's situation is complex, but the country has been making positive strides...but you seem to think that Colombia will not meet such goals because you have already predetermined that Obama will never support a trade deal with Colombia.

Plan Colombia was originally authored by Pastrana, he was not in office long enough to receive positive results from the bill.

Well, Colombia is going to have to survive without Uribe and it will also most likely have to get by with less funding from the US regardless of who is in office. So, I guess you feel that Colombia's recent success will be all for not and that the country will slide backwards in the near future. That is too bad. I can see why you would feel that way, but most Colombians I know are more resilient and optimistic.

Love your quote about taxes...It is brilliant. Why pay taxes to pay for your own defense when you can collect aid from another country in order to pay for it?
