I grew up in a racist holdhold

If my parents were alive today, they would not be happy that I was dating a latina. I see how nice her family is to me, and it makes me feel guilty I can not recipricate. I know that we are not responsible for the sins of our parents, but I never told them how wrong they were. I guess that is where the guilt comes in. My girlfriend asks me often about my family and I change the subject. I wish I would have told her I was an orphan. Sometimes this guilt I have really eats away in me inside. I guess that is why I wrote this post.

So you tell her your family is racist but you're not, no big deal. Either way, she will probably have to experience it first hand and if you tell her now she'll be ready for it.

I agree with Diana, it is not your fault they are racists. As long as you are not one.

Don't sweat it man. My olds are racists too although they would never admit it. I showed me mum a pic of a g/f from Rionegro, Antioquia (northern spainish decent) and me mum said she looked forigen... that was the nicest thing she could muster up. And my malparido bro is even worse... he thinks all women from 3rd world countries are pros/hos. I sent him to hospital for that comment.

Like Mononoke says just admit what your family are and you're not like that. Or you can tell they piss you off and you wouldn't give them the steam off your piss let alone the time of day... thanks guys I feel better...lol

I'm not greedy I just want a lot.

anybody who grew up in an american home before the '50's '60's was raised in a racist household. folks were racist before they even knew what it meant. it was like, there were your kind of 'folks' and then there were the others.

Is that a rhetorical device to emphasis your strength of feelings; or did you actually assault your brother? I'm curious.

I know brothers can have the most vicious of falling outs. And for trivial reasons too. I kid you not- I had a stand up fight with my brother over which was the best English translation of 'Crime and Punishment'.

all my life, growing up, i couldn't stand my brother...he liked to show off to his friends by bullying me and my friends. this lasted until two years ago when our folks died....it was then that the ice finally melted and we could sit down and visit like brothers. 65 years later.

Diana is right...just tell her, she has to know how you are and know you aren't like they were. I agree that most people raised in the 50's and 60's are not used to Latinos.

I think ignorance is fixed with education, and knowledge...you learned from your parents mistakes and that's all that really matters!

Really? I haven't. How many women here specifically hung out in spots where they could marry a foreigner? I always see people in Colombia obsess with foreigners...

I have just noticed when these younger women are all into their guy from the US, the parents don't seem to much like it. The girls think they are marrying up, the parents think they are marrying down. jaja

I actually yelled at a Colombian friend she called me and asked me if I could find her a "tall, white, blond, blue eye rich gringo" because she was sick of "muerto de hambre Colombianos!?"

well I don't know about the really poor desperate girls, that is likely different. Estrato 5 and 6 family girls is more who I know of, and their families are not happy if they choose US guys who appear to be lower than that. That's all MaFe

I deleted it because it was only a handful...my aunt is older and married and could care less. When the girls in her condo place were on my brother she was very mad. She felt that even though those were rich girls they knew my brother came from more money...i don't know but where she lived at in my eyes just a bunch of bobas...

What do u mean were the guys in the US? Where she lived it was all Colombians

never mind, no big deal on figuring all of that out tonight. Let's just say that Colombians and north Americans have a tendency to be intrigued by each other, and their parents tend to often be skeptical of anything serious coming of it.
