GS - I have a smiley bendy at work that I sometimes put into yoga positions. I should replace my photo with it!

Lauthra - Nice to meet another Ashtanga devotee. I tried Bikram once and didn't like the heat. And the barking of the positions like commands isn't very pleasant. Yoga should be much more soothing than that! I've practiced Ashtanga in a number of locations I've traveled to. The next time I'm in Bogotá I hope you can direct me to classes. Considering how inflexible I was when I first started yoga, I know I've improved. I don't think I'll ever get as flexible as my cats. Do yours try to bump your head when you're in downward dog? Yup, both my cats are rescues as well. They are like children to me.

Well, I grew up in Cali so the heat it's like being home on a very hot day. Paffy, my male cat, jumped on my back once when I was doing bow pulling posture, was funny and painful :P Sure, you should go to the studio I go to, it's good :) My cats are like children as well, not a lot of people understand the way I feel about them, some have even said 'But they're just cats', and got a very nasty look in response! So you come to Colombia on a regular basis?

Nato (='.'=)

houstongal says on Jul 26, 2007, 06:34:

No I don't, but I wish I did! Ouch...doing bow is bad enough but with a cat on your back it's worse. If I practice yoga at home (rarely), I have to close the door. There's nothing worse than having cat hair in your face when you're sweating and trying to get into a position! But then they meow outside the door. A friend used to tell me that if she dies, she would want to come back as one of my cats. Sounds like coming back as one of your cats would be equally good!

But 2 really is OK. And yes, I do love the kitties so much that I cannot imagine life without cats. Putting up with weekly allergy shots for 2 years was worth my being able to enjoy my cats, being outdoors, dusting (ha! that's what cleaning ladies are for!), etc.

wow HG!! you had allergy shots every week? gosh! What were they, are they extracts of the allergen to desensitize your body?

If you have hayfever, try taking Grazax tablets 3 months before the pollen starts up. I tried it and it really works. Its the first allergen vaccination tablet on the market I think.

0 funny, 0 helpful.

houstongal says on Sep 7, 2007, 10:36:

Yeah, allergy shots every week. They rotated arms. Because I was allergic to so much stuff, the serum was rather thick. But it was probably better than all of the sinus infections I kept on getting. But now I rarely have any problems. I don't even have to take Claritin during hay fever season.

Yeah Lauthra, I bet 4 cats in a small flat would have me sneezing after about an hour. Mine also are very scared in new environments. I think it takes them a little while to seek and find favorite sleeping spots in new places. Cats really don't like change.

Dan, my white cat is deaf and when she was younger she loved to chase the light from a flashlight. She would even run up the wall to chase it. None of my other cats ever fell for the light from laser pointers or flashlights. They'd rather play with tin foil balls and pretend they're soccer balls. Cheap entertainment!

What my friends did was to get the cats fall over the furniture. They had a couch set about a couple feet away from the wall for walking behind it. They would shine the laser all over the floor when they were chasing it pretty good, they would flash it on the couch and when the cats got close to it, shine it on the wall behind it and they would not even stop and jump up at it falling to the floor again. They did this a few times before the cats got tired of it. Hour later, start right back up... entertaining all right!

I don't know when I'll every get back there seeing as almost all of us moved away to other places, but I definitely have some good memories from there. How bout them Texans :-p

HoustonGal: Sounds like you ran into more adventure in Peru than I did. I had a friend who took a 20 hour bus ride there that was held up by gun-toting bandits five times. The bandits would just build a big barricade on the road, hold up the bus, ask each person for a couple dollars. The bus driver and other passengers got annoyed since a couple dollars five times is a lot of money for some people. The driver started driving over the barricades so the bandits would fire at the bus... which had curtains insted of windows. My friend was almost hit.

HG, you are a riot haha, can picture this now....sincerely hope your white one comes out of it ok. Look at natural herbs (In order of preference; *Pata de vaca leaf*, Pedra hume caa, bitter melon, chanca piedra, even guava to add to the water or food, but ask your vet first if combining with insulin. Have heard in humans, is possible to take together but the insulin needs to be adjusted. Infusion is main prep. method (For first name in list). Is widely used in So. America, but also too 6 other common names for the same leaf. If you need these please let me know.
Best to you and the little kiddies!

Thx for the advice lampltr. It's been almost 2 months since she was diagnosed and she's doing very well. Apparently her kidney function has improved somewhat, which is a positive. The kitty is 16 or 17 years old so these are typical diseases for a cat her age. I appreciate your concern.
