I had the pleasure of working in La Paz for eight months last year. What a fantastic country. The people were friendly and there was no lack of things to do. Highlights of my time there were 1. Cycling the Worlds Most Dangerous Road to Coroico 2. Climbing Huayna Potosi 3. Carnaval in Oruro 4. Chalalan Lodge in the Bolivian Amazon and 5 Isla del Sol. I am living in Morocco now but want to return to Bolivia again soon. * D ...
This is a bit of a long story, but after much deliberation let the truth be told. Two years ago I met a very special Colombiana...she invited me to visit her country. My first thought was "are you crazy?" Being a 5'11 Canadian with blonde hair, I was sure that I would be kidnapped, shot and left for dead. Nothing could be further from the truth. I spent three weeks in May 2004, and had the time ofmy life! Beautiful women, friendly people and an experience not to be forgotten. I visited th ...
Well I am back in Canada. The plan was to line up some work in Colombia as part of the "say no to winter program." The folks at the DAS in Bogota told me that a work permit could only be issued if you were a qualified teacher specializing in languages. What does this exactly mean? Is it a Bachelor of Education, or a BA with TESL, TEFL or CELTA. I was not able to get any straight answers in regards to what is exactly required for a work permit as a teacher. Furthermore, my efforts to contac ...
Greetings ! Having spent the past two months in and around Bogota I have enjoyed the friendly Colombian people, the amazing food and the vibrant culture. I suspect there are very few places in the world where a westerner can live like a King on the reasonable prices. It is certainly a country that is getting a terrible reputation through western media.
The plan was to accept a English teacher position in the Coffee Region near Manizales. After some research, the DAS has change ...
Hmm this red tape can be frusterating. I had lined up some work teaching English in the coffee region. Apparently the law has been changed in recent weeks and a teaching degree is required for Colombia. i.e. A Bachelor Degree and TESL Certificate will not do the trick. Furthermore, the work permit has to be arranged from your home country. A trip to a neighboring country will not work. All documents have to be authenticated in the USA or Canada. Has anybody out there gone through this exp ...
Hello all
I will be flying to Bogota in early November in hopes of teaching english at a university or at private institutes. Do you know of any reasonable accommodation options for a stay of about 6 months or so? It would have to be in North Bogota in a safe neighborhood. I don't mind sharing with roomates. Any leads appreciated. My e mail is dnits123 at telus.net. Check out my website www.truecolombia.com. ...
Hello all
I had travelled to Colombia this past May and had the time of my life. I plan on returning to Bogota in early November in hopes of staying away from the Canadian winter. My hopes are to teach english, learn spanish and enjoy the culture. A few questions....
1. Is it easy to find work with a University degree with a TESL Certificate or is Colombian Immigration looking for a teaching degree??? My plane ticket is good for 6 months. I suspect going there ...
www.truecolombia.com. I travel commentary about my three week trip to this Amazing South American Nation.
Hello all
I have been following this forum since before I left from Canada. I am just back from three amazing weeks in Colombia. All the information listed on this site was accurate and very informative. I would consider moving to Bogota to teach english as early as September 2004. I have a bachelors degree with many years of informal teaching experience (park interpretation, tour guiding and that type of thing). I plan on taking a TESL course this July and August. Can anybody ...
