By knocking somebody else, we in turn make ourselves feel better about...ourselves... It boosts your own self-confidence (somewhat artificially) by creating biased standards based on that person's comments?
Just would like to know why YOU think people talk poorly about each other on this forum?... even in general?
Poor self esteem/low self confidence? Jealiously? Pissed off?
What's up?
Burp...

clyde says on Nov 6, 2009, 22:32: Here's what I found: There are three general motives behind people talking bad about another person. 1. They're talking with someone to solve a problem they're having with the individual, but lack the skill to do it in a kind way. 2. They want to discredit the other person, or cause harm to the other person. Their motive is to hurt, or they feel they must defend themselves from hurt, so they hurt first. 3. They want to be accepted, so they find common humor, evil, etc. to talk about to make themselves feel better.

Juepaje says on Nov 7, 2009, 03:14: Mostly, it is about the messenger and not the message. Since we use words, it is easy to find oneself oposed to another because of the way that they express themselves. It may be because this person has different political beliefs or they may be ignorant of how to effectively make their point. There is a lot of disrespect here for people that have opinions. I am very careful about what I write because I know how it feels to be berated on this site. Somethings you just have to bite your tongue and let them go without commenting. If we had better manners and behaved with respect for all opinions, there would be a lot less of this. I disagree with most people on this site but I don't remember ever personally attacking anyone. I may have disagreed with their opinion but I also have a right to an opinion if I express it honestly and without malice. Peace bretheren. babygirl says on Nov 7, 2009, 04:49: Attack the message, not the messenger. There are a couple people on here that annoy the hell out of me. I just try to ignore their comments, because it's not worth it half the time to debate back and I truly feel like they persist because they're trying to bait me in to taking it personal. Maybe that's paranoia, but it's what my instincts tell me. Debating a point on this forum sometimes is like running in circles and then when I have engaged in a debate, I get personally attacked. It's so ridiculous and something that I'd expect on my teenager's Facebook wall when she's fighting with someone. I hate the racism. I don't think it's necessary. Why be mean about people's families? Ya these guys can be jerks and just seem to exist here on PBH to attempt to prove other people wrong ALL the freakin' time. There's too much bad blood that has passed over the past months, just ignore each other, keep the ridiculous PM's to a minimum, and ditch the slander. Best quote of the week... There are probably a half dozen people on here that seem to be obnoxious or just ass holes but its a total waste of time to try to criticize them every time they post as they seem to want to do with others. The internet allows anyone the opportunity to pretend to be something they are not. Most of us want to be accepted and therefore try to fit in. The really sad case is the one who spouts off with little regard to whether their comments move people towards them or away from them. I suspect like an unstable dog their insecurity is what motivates them but regardless they cannot be trusted.

emerson_wylde says on Nov 8, 2009, 10:44: People often talk poorly about others because they attack the messenger rather than the message, as already mentioned by babygirl, juepaje, others. I think people do this because they fail to separate the two -- without explicitly thinking about it, many people take the approach that "I AM my thoughts ideas and opinions" as opposed to "I am a PERSON who has thoughts ideas and opinions". So when somebody attacks a strongly held opinion, some of us feel attacked personally, and then launch our own counter-attack, but on the other person rather than on what they said. So why do some of us find it so difficult to separate the message from the messenger??
1 funny, 0 helpful. |

emerson_wylde says on Nov 8, 2009, 10:54: By the way Justo, you may think someone is an asshole... and feel that it "needs saying" -- but you are not the arbiter of that. You have your views on what behavior is inappropriate, the other person has theirs -- there is no absolute, it is opinion. You should be able to express your views of why you are opposed to what the other person says or does without resorting to name calling. AND you should be able to express your views here without someone else calling you names like "officious bitch" or "ass wipe". The rules against personal attacks are meant to keep discussions civil and on point, and make the forum a hospitable place to visit.
