it's simple and i choose white cuz is cheaper to make, my idea was to put a picture behind each letter, as you more or less can see behind the P is the a beach, behind the B i wanted to put a desert and behind the H some people. the .com add to the site. simple but efective :)) OH and take the red overlay off not good :(

They do wear black t-shirts in Colombia too. But, I was under the impression that this t-shirt was going to be marketed to PBH-members in the first place. Most of us live outside Colombia, I think.

Silk screen printing would be quite expensive but that method of printing shirts is also reserved for long print runs because the set-up charges to print short run orders is an enormous cost, so screen printed garments are usually printed in high numbers.

In this day and age, there are digital textile printers that print as inkjet direct-to-shirt and the result is a very durable, washable and soft-handed imprint, unlike the Plastisol inks used in screen printing, which usually leave a heavy-handed imprint to the garment. Garment inkjet printers are reserved for printing on light colors, white or pastels, from ash to baby blue, pale beige and tan, etc, since an inkjet cannot print white on a dark color (there is no white ink in an inkjet printing device).

The companies that are now available online for printing custom short run orders generally use the inkjet method and it doesn't matter if you have a zillion colors in your design, it's merely a digital image with a height and a width and the colors are all laid down digitally ;-) but the limitation is that the shirts are light colors or white - but the trade-off is worth it because of the design freedom inherent with this process of printing.

I'd add that when more countries are added, it's the same thing as when more states were added to the U.S. Add the necessary stars and start making flags again.

Not sure I connected with that AIDS remark... beyond me I guess. The motif is a compass with 25 countries represented around that compass, per the current PBH coverage of the world.

This particular design appears to have more impact on the white background, in my opinion, and lends itself quite neatly to digital inkjet garment printing.

Although there was a considerable amount of time spent with this, I think it came together well and the time was well spent, so those are my submissions to all. Yippy Yi O Kai Ayyy and all that.... ;-)

I wouldn't worry other possible contributors about costs since all those fancy colors are not an issue with inkjet garment printing. It is screen printing that costs more as colors are added. I gave a detailed description of the differences between the two garment printing techniques above. Basically, with inkjet garment printing, one color or a million colors still results in a X" x X" imprint and costs the same. I've used inkjet garment printing extensively and still have some shirts as much as 5 years old that haven't noticeably faded.

Peter's mentioned that he's interested in seeing some designs and I don't think anyone should limit their creativity with a one or two color palette - especially since screen printing isn't the mode of production. Get Creative people, and put some thought into it!

Yes, it's a digital print but there is no transfer. The shirt is loaded onto a pallet, shaped like a pallet on a traditional screen printing press but designed to be able to pass under the inkjet printing head, which then just passes side to side like any old Epson or whatever until the image is completed. It takes a couple of minutes and then that's it. No heat transfer. The result is a totally soft hand as it's called, which means that the only thing you feel to the hand is the shirt, not ink on the shirt as is the case with a lot of (traditionally heavy handed) Plastisol printing. When you see cracks in an imprint, that's Plastisol and that ink was never properly cured. I believe it's about 210°F at 30 seconds on the conveyor through the dryer to get the ink cured with that process.

It's just a tee shirt. No need to get in touch with Peter. What I do advocate though is that everyone possible out of the vast number of members get involved and get creative and not limit themselves by cost expectations that don't exist. That's all. It's no big thing really - except it's a nice idea Peter had for members to have fun as they contribute to the site and now more fun if members get involved... hello people?.

The basic thing about offset garment printing is that the amount of ink consumed by the printer is affected more by the area of coverage, rather than number of colors since it's just a digital image and not a color separated screen print image - and beyond that, when these companies estimate their pricing they don't base it on your particular image. They base it on a predetermined cost per impression across the board and also based on the largest imprint the inkjet can lay down, so everybody involved can use all of their imagination as far as colors go.

The size is limited by the size of the pallet, however and that's something like a 14" x 14" area. In the past, I've created multiple files of the same image and scaled to different physical sizes so the image would be appropriate for youth shirts, infant or toddler shirts as well as adult sizes. Here, unlike screen printing where that would require a whole different sets of screens for each image size I would want printed - it's just a different digital file sent to the printer.

Incidentally, to reproduce the ones I submitted earlier using traditional screen printing would amount to five or six screens, depending whether or not the green was composed of blue and yellow dots or selecting a green ink to be used rather than composing the green. I still wouldn't do this using screen printing though, not unless we were talking printing about hundreds of shirts at one time. Inkjet is the way to go. High quality, inexpensive, durable impression, and very easy to fulfill orders nowadays through online shops.
