I have never stayed there but it is on a nice part of the beach and the staff was very friendly when coresponding with me via email. The only reason we decided against it was because we wanted a pool and they don't have one. I'm pretty sure you could find a cheaper place but not sure where. Good luck and have some fun while you are there.

All that I can suggest is to have the taxi driver take you the 5 minutes from the airport to downtown, and ask him about a hotel that is cheap. The kind of place where many Colombians would stay. Air conditioned rooms are more expensive, but are very nice to have at night. So are hot showers. Tell him your basic needs.

Pay the driver to wait for you while you check out the rooms, if you feel that the driver is being honest and sincere.

You probably will not be able to view the beach from your room for a low price, but if you are in the downtown area, the beach is normally only a block or two away from your hotel.

By the way, the downtown area is actually a shopping district, so if you are living in Colombia, you might find some deals or things that are hard to find on the mainland.

Things that I have found shopping there are cheap but nice linens, a genuine gas Weber Bar-b-cue, nice cooking pots, and brands of booze that are cheap and hard or impossible to find on the mainland.
