if its a farm near the village than great, living in the village itself wont be so nice. its very poor and as a foreigner thats a problem because they might think you rich and may ask you to give the money all the time.

I don't know that area at all. But I do live near a very small town, a very small town. There are a few "beggars" in town that approach everybody, except me. Wrinkles has stopped that very effectivly. I moved here with a friendly attitude, I waved to everybody smiled at everybody, did not try to hide the fact that we were building a house here and invited anyone who wanted to to visit. This led to many squabbles with my Wife who is a big city girl who said " I don't want people to know my business". I explained to her that in a small town everybody knows everthing about everybody. As a result of my openness we quickly became friends with the entire town that has made things pleasant until today.

I have friends who live there. It has better weather than Cartagena - not quite as hot - and of course much more affordable, but it is a poor area and I wasn't entirely comfortable wandering around at night even though the place was packed because it was the weekend and everyone was partying. I was the only gringo and I was getting the hairy eyeball from a few of the local guys - they were NOT interested in a gringo being around their gals and on their turf.

I bought a case of beer from the store and it was the most heavily fortified establishment I'd ever seen. The owner had a shotgun very prominently displayed behind the gates.

Cheers,
Terry
