Spent some time in Medellin recently and am now in Cali. Whats the difference between these two cities?
Behin Parque Berrio station and Cineros station there is a block of shops selling trainers. They got the Nike Cortez you cannot get anymore back in Europa (you can only get the remake of some overegged design from the fokkin 70s or something). They got them with black, blue and white on white! Buying them in Medellin was easy, the price was frm 130,000 to 140,000.
Now in Cali and they sell the same trainers within a block of trainer shops on Qunita at La 15. Madre mia! La differencia! Quanto es??? What size senor? Yes, and how much? sit down senor. No, I want a price? When I got a price the first shop said 180,000. The next shops went into a frenzy. All the over the top crrap. You pay in dollars? What dollars? How many countries in the World toto? Uhh... Not exploiting my education honestly, its not great.
Next shop, quanto es? No answer for a while then came back with 200,000 pesos. I said thats expensive. You sell many at that price? I thought not.
So is this the oft held belief that gringos are rarer in Cali or that Paisas want to do business? Or just dumb Colombian tennis sellers?
