Good cigars...

Good cigars.... Do they exist in Medellin or nearby and if so could someone please direct me to where I can buy them (And not some crazy priced ones either!).

Thanks in advance for your help.

There´s a tobacco shop where you can buy all types of Cigars, even Cuban cigars (not available in the US) and also colombian Cigars and tobaccos and anything else you may need. You can even enjoy a nice cigar upstairs, they have a lounge, they serve whisky and rum while you listen to cuban music. Very nice.

It´s located El Poblado, I don´t remember the exact address, ask for a restaurant called Primos on Calle 10B or is it Calle 11?, anyway, go west to the corner and turn left. It´s located either on that block or the next block.

I smoke the occasional Cuban stogie and EVERY time I do - especially in a big city like Bogota or Medellin - I have guys coming up to me asking what kind it is, where did I get it, how much did it cost, etc. These cigars get me a LOT of attention.

After one very high-placed government official was of incalculable assistance to us and he always expressed delight multiple times when I gave him a single stogie I went ahead and brought him a small humidor with a modest selection of Cubans. He has never stopped thanking me since. I think he'd give me the keys to the city if I asked. It's almost embarrassing, literally.

Maybe the yuppie cigar "hip" factor of the '90's never hit Colombia and since they've never been a big deal there this results in them being such an object of curiosity and interest? Is it because they're so expensive and obviously a purely luxury item that the status symbol aspects turns them on?

Perhaps this could be a lucrative niche market for an importer to make a little money...

Cheers,
Terry
