FARC by Bus

On the bus route, Bogotá - Bucaramanga, what are the chances of a FARC or paramilitary road block set up? Is this considered a safe route during the day or are there possibilites of FARC activity i this region? I keep getting bad thoughts of going to a roadblock and having FARC finalyl find a gringo and when they find out he's broke as a skunk put a bullet to his head :(

safe, especially during the day. go with a relatively decent bus company and you should not have any problems.

This route has been considered safe, day and night, for several years. Done it several times for years and have never heard about neither FARC or robbery. Of course, you may never completely avoid the risk of robbery, but I have always been told by locals that roads east of Bogota, to Bucaramanga and other places, is as safe as it can reasonable be in Colombia.

Just made the trip on Berlinas, nine hours bogota to bucaramanga. No problemas, excellent bus. On any road with that much traffic the bad guys are going to have trouble putting up a road block, especially during the day. enjoy!

Sure, it's a slow poison, but who's in a hurry?

The only heart attack you are going to have is looking down at the cliffs around the Chicamocha river... LOL

What about La Linea between Bogota and Ibague,Tolima for a blond haired, blue eyed gringa??? Safe during the day, yes? Ibague is near Nieva and heard there's been some recent FARC crap going on there. Of course, I could be wrong... that's why I'm askin'!

If you are broke Farc will put a couple of Ben´s in your pocket.

There is not such thing as La Línea between Bogotá and Ibague.

Ibague is not that close to Neiva where today they are marching against violence.

I would worry only if you venture far from turist areas, and then again not to all directions.

webmanco says on Apr 22, 2009, 12:34:

Besides, to go to Neiva you don`t need to go to Ibague.
At this point is where you choose wether to got Ibague route or Neiva route.

How far are Borbosa and Soccorro from Villa de Leyva? Is there a link anyone can provide of a map that would show where these towns are in relation to Bogotá and Bucaramanga?
