FARC at 4 Kilometers from Parque Tayrona!
This afternoon, I had a call from the workers at my finca in Magdalena.
Early this morning, a group of people who live in Vereda Orinoco just one hour walking up to the Sierra from the main road,
Troncal del Caribe, reached Vereda Los Cocos, saying that guerrillas told them to leave home.
Vereda Los Cocos is on Troncal del Caribe, 4 kilometers from the main entrance of Parque Tayrona.
Right now, around 200 troops were sent up to Orinoco, more are right there at Los Cocos and an entire battalion "de alta montana" is being moved from Machete Pelao, up from Buritaca.
The situation seems actually under control on the main road.

Again, it is just 4 Kilometers from the main entrance of Parque Tayrona.
For everybody going there, please be cautious.
I would avoid to visit Quebrada Valencia and Buritaca, too.
Going to Ciudad Perdida without first knowing what's going on would be crazy...
I would not go to Minca as well.
They just mentioned it on Caracol on TV, too.

It sounds really strange.
Rumors are that those people invented everything to get money from Plan Colombia, but you never know.
FARC use to keep their position higher in the Sierra, at something like 5 days walking from the main road.
But, after the dismantlement of the paracos up there (Los Mellizos' group, Los Nevados), FARC may be trying to get their territory.
I was posting something about it just a month ago.

... Sorry, but "guerrillas" is what I was told first time at the phone.
http://www.hoydiariodelmagdalena.com.co/hoy/Secciones/La_ciuidad.htm#E...

Paracos caused forcible displacement of 400 people just 4 kilometers from Parque Tayrona
Latest info:
Around 10 days ago, a campesino was killed (they cut his throat) by paracos of the new group, Los Paisas, whose leader is Daniel Rendón, alias Don Mario.
http://colombiaconflict.wordpress.com/2008/04/22/medellin-violence-on-...
The people were advised against denouncing the fact, but a campesino did not follow that advice. So, he was threatened to be killed and his family was forced to flee.
As a reaction, the whole population left their home and reached Los Cocos down the main road.
They are asking a permanent presence of the army up in the Vereda Orinoco and they are menacing to put a block on Troncal del Caribe.
Vereda Orinoco, just one hour from the road, has always been a paracos stronghold: just few months ago, VÃctor Manuel MejÃa Múnera aka "El Mellizo was almost taken there during an impressive military operation.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VÃctor_Manuel_MejÃa_Múnera
Again, I am talking about a place which is just within 5 kilometers from the main entrance of Parque Tayrona.
I visited Vereda Orinoco a few months ago: the place is freaking awesome. It can be reached with a jeep in 40 minutes, travelling through luscious mountains. All of a sudden, a nice village, with a nice restaurant bar appears in the jungle: you cannot avoid thinking about what that nice village is doing up there...
People are trying to survive how they can and they have some nice nursery farms up there.
Beautiful ponds and waterfalls in the surroundings: the place would surely be a tourist attraction if just the road was in a better state (talking about social investment, Webmanco).

Las Farc siguen perdiendo hombres
Redacción de El PaÃs
Desmovilizados.
