Just because you have been to Colombia, that does NOT mean that you are anywhere near an expert on the place. Sorry. Truth hurts.

Some people believe that the dollar is oversold and due for a bounce. I could see it in the short term.

Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult.

It works that way every time.. Ive said it before and I have no clue how they are connected.. Lets ask Juepajo, he seems to have a jist of finances.

PCL,
I agree with you. Near the top of the KITCO page there is a new graph that shows the change of the price of gold and the amount of change due to dollar strength/weakness and gold demand. It is also an interesting number to watch because it gives you a different take on the relative strength of the dollar that is independent of other currencies. By the way PCL, I am an idiot investor. I buy cheap land, silver and gold. Never played the market in my life but I have been doing this for over 20 years and it has served me well. My strategies are simple. My acres are still acres. My gold and silver are still gold and silver. Nothing has changed but I continue to buy even in today's market, as I feel they are are still cheap.

panth I said it about hte relation market to dollar. It is very simple. I will let Makopp explain it, he is the expert on me being the expert. When he fails miserably I will do it. But it is very simple

I am sure if I explain it then I will be told I am wrong. So ince he knows I am wrong then he must be right?

It does not matter either way since it would be like getting the monkey to land the space shuttle.

Juepaje says on Nov 5, 2009, 04:29:

oneforyourmillion,
I wise man once told me that the reason the market goes up is because there are more buyers than sellers. The reason it goes down is that there are more sellers than buyers. I am in 100% agreement with you. I know of no other way to explain it.

Sic enim dilexit Deus mundum ut Filium suum unigenitum daret ut omnis qui credit in eum non pereat sed habeat vitam aeternam.

Juep I know why I am just not saying it. Everytime I say something like that that is somewhat opinionated what I say gets turned around and manipulated until somehow I am clearly wrong and stupid idiot and certain people are right. jaja

I will wait for Makopp to look it up in the internet and then post what he read as his opinion.

But one thing is for sure Juep you are 100% correct in what you said and it is funny how emotion tends to muck that very simple truth up? Basically though it starts there. Loo at the ollar and the commodities priced in dollars and then ask yourself why if the US market goes down does the dollar go up?

It is very hard for people out in the fantasy world who beleive the US is not important to global economies and Colombia is the actual superpower of the world to understand which is why I don't see anyone giving the obvious answer. They just can't grasp it.

If it were not for all of the obsession about the Dollar vs the Peso on this site, I would normally only look at the price 2 or 3 times a year. My income is in pesos and the relationship does not affect my lifestyle that much. Screaming, "GO Dollar" when there is a 30 peso change or 50 peso change does not get my blood boiling. I am not a futures trader or a day trader. I tend to look at things in 5 year intervals. I do feel symathetic towards those that rely on SS checks or some other fixed income dependent on the dollar as some swings can make or break them. As long as it stays between 1000 and 3000, I am fine with it.

oneforyourmillion says on Nov 5, 2009, 04:42:

yep your right it does effect people, used to matter to me. I have an account to rebuild so there are no dollars changed out for the strong peso. It is hobby of mine the peso. I risk money every day in the markets but you would never see me risk money in the peso as a trade.

It does effect one business I have but not that much that any 50 point move in the peso is going to make me jump for joy o cry in my milk. I simply pass it along to the customer like everyone else does. Of course if I were trading in some low profit margined item like fruit or something I might think different but high ticket items? 50 points? jaja

I do not change dollars anymore either, my Colmbian income is all in pesos.

MaBarker says on Nov 6, 2009, 21:07:

viajero, you can transfer your money, online, into any one of 1000's of investment and hedging vehicles. interbolsa has an international dept, so recently you could have taken advantage of a huge move on the Brazilian Real before capital controls were imposed. when the dollar was weak, you could have bought an etf, uup, and caught a bounce on the dollar versus the peso. you can play precious metals as well.

you can switch between pesos and dollars by buying adr's on the new york stock exchange in pesos.

MaBarker says on Nov 6, 2009, 21:12:

you don't necessarily have to switch between pesos and dollars to collect on a bounce of the dollar. you can take you pesos now, buy some australian gold mining stocks and then let the dollar fall against the aud and then cash in.

Why would anyone wwant to trade a currency with such a low volume? The markets in Colombia are rigged, it is all about inside information and who gets it first. That goes for all the markets from what I hear anyway from people who trade them.

If your just going to make money on the fluctuating currency there are easier ways to do that than trading the COP......

oneforyourmillion says on Nov 7, 2009, 11:27:

OK you can do what you want. But there is something called leverage and trading the euro or a more liquid currency at 100:1 leverage is going to be more profitable with less risk. I think more than pie in the sky 1-2% move on the peso in my opinion. But if you have a crystal ball on the peso than be my guest.
