Controversia en Medellín por documental de CNN que revive la imagen violenta de la ciudad

La producción del periodista Karl Penhaul, de esa cadena, muestra ante la comunidad internacional a la capital antioqueña como una ciudad violenta y dominada por el narcotráfico.

En sólo 5 minutos y 26 segundos, el periodista retrata la actual violencia que palpita en casi todas las 16 comunas y 5 corregimientos de la capital antioqueña a través de la historia de un joven de 17 años que muere abaleado en una calle de la comuna 13.

Además, se sumerge en el negocio de las drogas a través de la narración de varios jóvenes que preparan cigarrillos de marihuana y base de cocaína en una de las 750 plazas de vicio que existen en la ciudad y que mueven, según cifras de las propias autoridades, cerca de 10 mil millones de pesos al mes.

Sin embargo, esta vez la Alcaldía de Medellín no rechazó el trabajo periodístico como si ocurrió en la pasada administración del ex alcalde Sergio Fajardo.

En el 2005, Fajardo protestó contra una publicación de la revista National Geographic que narraba la violencia urbana y un año después hizo lo mismo con un reportaje titulado 'Escuela de sicarios', presentado por el canal Telecinco de Madrid (España).

"Es una realidad que no desconocemos aunque se pudo grabar en cualquier ciudad de Latinoamérica. Lo que pasa es que el nombre de Medellín vende mucho", dijo el alcalde Alonso Salazar.

El mandatario agregó que aunque la situación de violencia en Medellín es crítica, el camino para superarla seguirá con los programas sociales y de impulso al empleo a los jóvenes de las comunas de la ciudad.

Sin embargo, insistió en que la responsabilidad mayor recae sobre el Gobierno Nacional. "Lo más trascendental de la solución está en el ámbito nacional.

Hemos hecho varios reuniones con el presidente Uribe y vamos a seguir insistiendo en el fortalecimiento de la Fiscalía y el aumento del pie de fuerza. Hoy Medellín tiene 500 policías menos que en el 2005", agregó.

Unas falencias que parecen explicar, en parte, el incremento de homicidios en la ciudad que tan solo el martes pasado registró 6 muertes violentas y en todo el fin de semana un total de 21 asesinatos.

Hasta el pasado 9 de octubre, Medellín registraba 1.530 homicidios, 486 más que lo que se registró en todo el 2008 (1.044).
Para Jorge Giraldo, director de Ciencias Políticas de la Universad Eafit de Medellín, aunque es positivo que no se oculte la actual situación, sí es necesario evaluar si la información que se presenta a nivel internacional no está distorsionada de las reales cifras y procesos que se viven en el país. "Hay que ubicar la actual situación de violencia en sus justas proporciones", dijo Giraldo.

my friend...........how could anyone like that, the theme or the scenario? it's all tragedy. live reduced to zero value, morals out the window for the cheap fix and the lives of countless dependent on this below human life and lifestyle. it is a tragedy beyond measure. for colombia in general and the lost souls in particular who murder as a way of life.

it´s just about money, if you write with lots of blood it sells better, and that was the only point for the writer.Trying to keep up a old and false image, because most people do not now the difference between now and the 90'. They just think same old shit. And it was and still is to bring a fair image to Medellin.

On a positive note it'll go a long way toward keeping the pasty faced, Disney World loving, "I expect the gov't to keep me safe" idiots out of here, but I don't like people talking negatively about my home, when they have way too many issues of their own to face.. I personally think that the MRE should issue a travel advisory about people going to Phoenix.
