Capurgana

Hi, has anyone been to Capurgana from Turbo lately? Appreciate any advice on the trip and security situation.

No problems. That route has been firmly on the gringo trail for a few years now.

Capurgana and the surrounding area is really nice, and continuing up the coast is an interesting alternate route to get into Panama.

Cheers,
Terry

PS Bring a big garbage bag or something to protect your luggage - if the sea is rough then you'll get wet. Also, the seat in the boat can smash your ass black and blue - bring something soft to sit on.

thanks Cheers Terry - have you also been to Niqui or Bahia Solano; and if so which would you choose out of the three?

If you speak Spanish and want to go waaaay off the beaten path with very few other tourists and (of course) no nightlife but spectacular scenery and endless nature all around you then go to the Pacific coast and do Nuqui and/or Bahia Solano. (Nuqui is nicer, sort of.) You must like the African side of Colombia and almost complete isolation. I think you'd want to pick a good time of year though, perhaps when the whales are calving or when the sea turtles are laying their eggs.

Capurgana is much more of a tourist town, but because of it's location it's obviously not overrun with gringos yet and it's easy to escape into the nature there too. It's a nice hike through the jungle to the wee hamlet of Sapzurro which is right on the Panama border. From Sapzurro I hiked into Panama, had a beer with some fishermen then walked back to Sapzurro. That was kind of neat but the cop in Sapzurro was a little pissed off at me... ;-)

Cheers,
Terry

I hope giving out more travel info like this doesn't make Darloup even more pissed off... LOL

Darloup, you've been asked a few times before; who are the 'clique members'?

MaBarker says on Nov 2, 2009, 17:54:

"not probably one of them'.

Sounds like your unsure, are you just as unsure about the other clique members? A 'clique', by definition is tight knit, black and white, small and identifiable. Some people, like Cheers Terry want to know because they may want to collect the $100. If you're offering a challenge to someone, you should at least identify them so there won't be any confusion.

Darloup has wimped out on his own challenge, knowing full well that most of his mystery "clique" members have imparted VASTLY more solid, accurate info than he ever has. He'd be in debt for thousands if he actually kept his word and went through with his so-called "challenge."

Sorry about the thread-jack, bickerss. Anything else you want to know, ask away...

Cheers,
Terry

By the way, I'll be sailing from Panama to Sapzurro in mid January if anyone wants to meet-up for a ride back to Panama...

Yes, he certainly has, CT. Also, those were some pretty strong words he used in his above comment....

..."You'd have to be far nastier, LOTS more obnoxious, and forget most of your own principles in order to qualify"........

Smearing a subsection of PBH is certainly not friendly and it makes you wonder how he gets away with it. Do you think Darloup has his own clique?

CT Thank you for the information; I have asked around a bit and most agreed with your thoughts on Nuqui; I will look for a flight with ADA or Satena. Once again thanks.

Mike - tried to get a flight to Rodadero, and all I found was for 700 to 800 mil. If I can find a reasonably priced one I will c u there.
