Basilea Comida Francesa y Mediterranea, Calle 16, No 2 58/74 Centro Hisorico - 5 stars - absolutely incredible food. I didn't know so many nice restaurants were here in Santa Marta. The place is like others in a old but beautifully restored house - but with AC. The place is incredible - the atmosphere, service and food. We split the garlic shrimp in mushroom red wine and cream - it was incredible (and expensive). This place is in a league of it's own. The one meal and 2 beers was 52,250 including propina. We will return for sure.
Ironically, we went to the Banana's bar before going to Basilea at the suggestion of another PBHer. It was kind-of dumpy, beers in cans (I hate beer in cans) for 5000 (each). 3 girls were sitting there at tables doing nothing. After a walk around we left Bananas.

Papi de Alejo says on Nov 21, 2009, 07:12: Larry, I have less than three weeks before I get there. I see that I will not be able to complain about not having any good restaurants to go to when I get there. And as my friend Island Girl says, you will be partly responsible for my waistline. I usually lose a good bit of it when I get there. I don't see that happening this time. Live simply... Love generously... Care deeply... Speak kindly... 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

island girl says on Nov 21, 2009, 09:40: Papi I was down in SVG working with several community arts events and the Indigenous movement down there - now back at school/work in Toronto waiting to go again in December. I see you going to Colombia, I hope in the future we will both be on the coast at the same time so we can meet each other. I hope all is well with your family and that you have a great trip, and how tings besides?
