Hi all! Yes, we have a Bolivia section too now. I decided to add it because it's the other country I know best in South America, and it really really rocks for traveling. Cheap, incredibly beautiful - it must be one of the most beautiful spots on earth. So here's to Bolivia, and this new Bolivia forum!
By Peter (Moderator) on Jul 25, 2007, 07:24 in Bolivia rocks.

slguy says on Jul 27, 2007, 11:59: I'd REALLY like to hear more first-hand experience in Bolivia. I have an online amiga who just annoys the hell out of me, to see her country. She's in Santa Cruz. Landlocked doesn't really ring my chimes, since I'm a sailor- but there seems to be good air service in the general area. Before you throw me out, make sure I pay my bar tab 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Robert Jorge says on Jul 29, 2007, 02:31: I heard Bolivia is the only landlocked country in the world with a navy. Is this true? (por que lago titicaca) That is also the highest elevation major lake in the world too ... from what I heard? I would love to visit Bolivia someday. I hope this section of Poor But Happy takes off so I can learn more about that country. Because I don't know sh**. And I hate being ignorant. Tinto (Moderator) says on Jul 29, 2007, 12:08: Robert Jorge - I don't know how people define "major lake" but Tititcaca is the highest commercially navigable lake in the world. It's about 140 miles long and up to 70 miles wide. The Navy exists up there, too - because the lake is an international border with Peru and (some say) to keep the skills alive should Bolivia ever regain access to the sea, which they lost in a war with Chile over 100 years ago.

Robert Jorge says on Jul 29, 2007, 21:31: I guess I didn't have the vocabulary for "commercially navigable lake". But, that is essentially what I meant by "major lake." Thanks for the info! He who farts in church, sits in his own pew. 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Peter (Moderator) says on Jul 30, 2007, 11:12: And I still think the Bolivians have some remote hope to stop being landlocked one day. Not gonna happen of course :) Poor but snappy 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

MacGringo says on Jul 31, 2007, 06:22: Don't think Bolvia will get that land back in a hurry, I heard from a Chileno friend in Glasgow that the piece of land which was taken by Chile has many copper mines.
